How technology transforms our perceptions of place, memory, identity, communication, reality, and human existence itself? We try to find answers to this question looking at the works on show across various media and practices in the “Digital Beings”, at MOMUS-Experimental Center for the Arts, at the Port of Thessaloniki, 8-25 October, 2026.
Through image, sound, hybridity, interactivity, and new digital approaches, the works create different conditions for viewing and experiencing, inviting us to navigate between the real and the digital, the familiar and the unknown, the material and the immaterial, as well as their digital traces. By harnessing the ever-evolving digital technologies that shape the present, artists explore new ways of approaching human experience, seeking to understand what it means to exist and coexist within the emerging futures.
The exhibition is being held to mark the tenth anniversary of the Postgraduate Programme “Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age” at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, at the Ionian University. This postgraduate programme serves as a space for experimentation where audiovisual creation intersects with digital media, interactive technologies, and new forms of production and dissemination of image and sound. Through this convergence, traditional artistic languages are not abandoned but are transformed, gaining new possibilities and being redefined in an environment where technology is now an active part of the artistic process.
Two performances by Alexandros Monokandylos (8 October) and Sonic Scapes / Martha Gogakou – Adam Siagas (23 October), work as a parallel programme to the exhibition, with free admission.
