The depiction of Civil War New York is uniquely accurate, Daniel Day-Lewis makes another demonstration of his interpretive skills, Scorsese&#8217;s themes are once again present (the hero falls and gets up again), while at the same time the violence is ingeniously connected to the country&#8217;s history. However, the linear and predictable result lacks the dramatic richness of his best works.
