SUMMARY:HFBC celebrates the European Author’s Day with events
DESCRIPTION:As part of European Author’s Day\, organized by the European programme Read for Real\, Latvian author\, illustrator\, and animator Anete Melece will be in Greece on December 8 and 9\, 2025. Anete Melece has received significant international recognition (Best Animation Award at the Swiss Film Awards\, presence at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair\, nomination for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award\, etc.). She lives and works in Zurich. \nOn the occasion of the publication of her books The Kiosk and Stella’s Stolen Sleep\, which are available in Greek from Ciel Publications\, she will have the opportunity to visit schools\, libraries\, and bookstores in Attica. She studied visual communication at the Art Academy of Latvia and animation at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Art. She works as an illustrator\, writer and animation filmmaker currently based in Zürich\, Switzerland. \nHer breakthrough project\, The Kiosk\, was born in 2013 as a short film as part of her master’s thesis\, and has won more than 20 awards at international festivals\, including the Best Animation Award at the Swiss Film Awards in 2014. \nIn 2019\, Melece adapted the story and made it an illustrated children’s book\, which was included in the international dPICTUS list of the 100 best unpublished illustrated books of that year. \nIn addition to The Kiosk\, Anete Melece has illustrated several other books for children\, her own\, such as Who Stole Stella’s Sleep?\, as well as other authors’. \nHer works have been presented at the Bologna International Children’s Book Fair; in 2021 she was nominated for the internationally recognized Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. \nHer books in Greek are published by Ciel publications. \nRead For Real \n#ReadForReal is an international project carried out by a consortium of 7 organizations from 5 countries. The great European celebration of literature and creativity will take place every year from November 11 to December 12. Author cross-borders tours will connect writers with readers in 43 Creative Europe countries.
